Notary fees are regulated uniformly throughout Germany by the Court and Notary Fees Act, and are therefore the same for all notaries. The notarial cost system is thus designed to be socially acceptable. A comprehensive study by Harvard University on the cost structure of real estate transactions has shown that notaries in Germany not only guarantee a high degree of legal certainty, but also that notary costs are lower than in other countries in an international comparison.
